REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:
This clinic is open to all students in grades 5-12 who are sponsored by current NC-ASTA members.
The application committee will determine the orchestra’s size and scope based upon the number of applicants. If there is suitable interest, the application committee will consider opening a second group. Students will be grouped by ability level and not by age. The size of the orchestra(s) may also be limited due to facility constraints.
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
All audition videos are due: Sunday , September 10, 2023
The application committee will be responsible for participant selection based on: Student Application, Recorded Excerpts, Teacher Recommendations, and the Maximum Size of the Orchestra.
HOW TO SUBMIT STUDENT APPLICATIONS:
1. Fill out and turn in the Student Information Form to Ms. Rajki
2. Submit a Video Audition (see guidelines below)
VIDEO AUDITION FORMAT: Create (1) unedited continuous video that will be attached to the Student Application Form. (Please do not edit this video.) Video Format: 1. Student will state Full Name, Grade, and Sponsoring Teacher.
2. Student will Perform Required Major Scale
3. Student will Perform Required Minor Scale
4. Student will State the Title and Composer of their chosen Solo Piece
5. Student will Perform Required Solo Excerpt 2023 NC-ASTA String Orchestra Festival & Clinic Teacher Application Instructions
6. Save the file name as: ncasta2324(students full name) – Example: ncasta2324johnsmith
VIDEO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: 1 solo work, no more than two minutes Grade III or Higher.

Violin: 3 8va G Major Scale/Arpeggio & 3 8va Melodic Minor Scale/Arpeggio of Student’s Choice
Viola: 3 8va C Major Scale/Arpeggio & 3 8va Melodic Minor Scale/Arpeggio of Student’s Choice
Cello: 3 8va C Major Scale/Arpeggio & 3 8va Melodic Minor Scale/Arpeggio of Student’s Choice
Bass: 2 8va G Major Scale/Arpeggio & 2 8va Melodic Minor Scale/Arpeggio of Student’s Choice
*Violin, Viola, and Cello Students may opt to perform 2 8va Scales- by doing so they would ONLY be considered for a second group if interest allows. Scale Requirements: Perform all scales and arpeggios from memory. The tonic may be repeated in each octave. Perform scales as sixteenth notes at a minimum tempo of quarter note = 50. Perform arpeggios the same number of octaves as the corresponding scales, eighth note triplets at a minimum tempo of quarter note = 50. Scales must be slurred in groups of 4 and Arpeggios must be slurred in groups of 3.
NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE
2023 NC-ASTA String Orchestra Festival & Clinic Teacher Application Instructions The application committee will post and email results by September 22, 2023. These results will be accompanied by a letter detailing the clinic schedule, guest conductor(s), and all other clinic information.
ATTENDANCE AND PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Students are required to be in attendance for the entire event. Students who are selected for a chair and do not participate will be barred from participation for the next year. Parents are responsible for transportation of their child so please make sure to check your calendar and start making arrangements early.
FEES
A fee of $75.00 per student is due upon acceptance.

Teachers will be sent a link to register their accepted students. In this link teachers will also find a copy of the student health form along with a student/parent letter which will be distributed by the teacher to the accepted students.
